The Public Resource Center is located on the 3rd floor of AtlanticProCare at 1274 Congress Street, Portland, Maine. A relaxed and informal setting with its own kitchenette, the Center has been designed to be a place where you can drop by to spend some time reviewing the information that we have or chatting with others. The Resource Center, like the Amputee Support Group, is completely free and open to the public. You can call AtlanticProCare at (207) 774-1002 during normal business hours to schedule a chance to stop by. The Public Resource Center is handicap accesible and is served by an elevator from the lobby.
 | | | A patient using our website to research health questions on our free-to-the-public, high speed internet access that is available in our Public Resource Center. | | The Center has an extensive library of books, magazines, pamphlets and videos with information that can be extremely helpful to people who have undergone an amputation. There is also a selection of interesting, "inspirational" books that are often an important part of finding ways to cope with the difficult experience of amputation. The videos feature information on the latest in components and techniques. If you've heard about something and want to know more about it, this is the place. There is a TV and VCR in the Center or there are private rooms for viewing videos if you'd be more comfortable.
The Center has also been equipped with high speed Internet access for you. The AtlanticProCare website has a tremendous number of links organized for ease of use that will guide you to support groups, chat rooms, resource materials, advocacy groups, component manufacturers, and national organizations. If you're unsure of how to use the Internet, or computers in general, don't be concerned-we've made it remarkably easy and all of our staff members are trained and willing to guide you through the few simple steps required. We'll have you "surfing the web" in no time, just ask!
The Center features a community bulletin board highlighting some of the interesting programs and activities available in the area. In our meeting room, we will be featuring lectures and presentations on health care issues from living with diabetes to high tech advances in prosthetic componentry. These will be announced on the Community Board as well as on the web site. We also expect to be offering a yoga class for people with limited mobility-it's both fun and relaxing.
Our large meeting facility is available to groups in the healthcare fields for meetings, lectures and presentations at no charge. If you know of someone who might be interested in using this facility please have them contact Jerald Cunningham, Director of Patient Care at (207) 774-1002. |
